During your scheduled appointment, your FreeStyle Libre specialist will gently insert the sensor under the very top layer of your skin. This is a very quick procedure and usually only requires some light numbing to the area of insertion. 

One hour following the insertion of the sensor, the FreeStyle Libre system will be ready to go. The sensor continuously takes a blood-sugar reading every 60 seconds and can be captured using the special reader that comes along with the system. By placing the reader 1-2 inches above the sensor, it captures the reading and sends it to your mobile device where you can access it via an app. The app is what allows you to see your real-time results, while also allowing you to reach your glucose levels over time. 

The FreeStyle Libre also comes equipped with an alarm to notify you if your glucose levels have spiked or have become too low, which offers many patients a sense of comfort as they move through their day-to-day activities. 

The sensor can be worn for up to 14 days before it will need to be replaced and data can be stored on your device for up to 90 days. 

The main purpose of the FreeStyle Libre system is to help ensure that your glucose levels are remaining within a safe range throughout the day.
