WatchPAT sleep study in Frisco TX
The WatchPAT system measures biological signals that help identify sleep apnea. This is an easy-to-use system that is done at home. Most sleep apnea tests will check airflow to detect sleep apnea events, while this device uses other means of measure that are very accurate. The WatchPAT device is a validated and FDA-cleared disposable test that can be used at home. For more information, call us today or book an appointment online. Who is a good candidate for the WatchPAT sleep study?
WatchPAT is a cutting-edge home sleep apnea device that uses a peripheral arterial signal to diagnose sleep apnea. It measures up to seven signals including heart rate, oximetry, body position, peripheral arterial signal, snoring, actigraphy, and chest motion using three points of contact. When the test is completed, the data is downloaded and scored for all types of sleep apnea events, quickly.
Let’s make this a little simpler to understand. The WatchPAT system is a wrist-worn device with a finger probe that collects Peripheral Arterial Tonometry signals and oxygen levels. A body position and snoring monitor is a part of the system to measure other components of sleep. The WatchPAT algorithm will detect respiratory events, sleep/wake periods, and calculates sleep stages.
The WatchPAT sleep apnea test shows a 98% success rate in measuring sleep apnea. This system has a less than 2% failure rate with data acquisition and analysis. The sleep test when compared to polysomnography has an 89% agreement rate for accurate sleep apnea detection.
Using the points of contact this test gathers different types of data to identify sleep apnea and its severity. The device measures various events that indicate sleep apnea, including oxygen levels, heart rate, snoring, body position, sleep stages, and other information that allows a board-certified sleep physician to diagnose sleep apnea.
WatchPAT focuses on the detection of two things, true sleep time and sleep stages.
WatchPAT is an FDA-cleared device that measures true sleep time. The sleep apnea testing can determine when you are awake and when you are asleep. Other tests get their results from how long you wear that testing device. This can lead to misdiagnosis due to the dilution of sleep data. Using true sleep time misdiagnosis is reduced by as much as 20%.
The significance of true sleep time in testing for sleep apnea has to do with measuring sleep apnea events accurately. These are done on a per-hour basis. If you have a difficult time falling asleep or are awake for long periods of time while taking the test, other testing types can record fewer apnea events that you actually have while you sleep. WatchPAT technology detects true sleep time and provides more in-depth information on a person’s actual sleep apnea.
WatchPAT also detects sleep stages, such as REM sleep and non-REM sleep. This helps determine your sleep quality and if you are getting the kind of sleep that your body needs. Sleep stage detection is important because sleep apnea events can happen in any sleep stage. Obstructive sleep apnea which is related to REM sleep will increase your risk of certain health complications. REM-related sleep apnea can increase the desaturation of oxygen and increase the risk of hypertension. This is why it is important to understand when sleep apnea events occur. This will help in getting to the correct diagnosis and determining the best course of action in treating sleep apnea.
The WatchPAT system is designed to test for obstructive sleep apnea. Anyone who is displaying signs of obstructive sleep apnea, people with hypertension or diabetes are considered to be good candidates, as is anyone who is exhibiting other symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea.
